NACADA Distance Education Advising Commission

Best Practices, Publishing and Research Team

Greetings All! Welcome to the Distance Education Advising Commission Wiki. The Commission is working on a number of projects and one of these is to build a best practices guide. In an effort to create a collaborative work environment and to foster interaction we are going to outline, write and edit this best practices guide in the form of a wiki.

I have met some of you at the NACADA Conference in Chicago this past October (2008) and am hoping to work with you to build the guide here. Many of you indicated that your school or college already had a best practices guide and that you would be willing to help with the construction of such a publication for NACADA.  It is my hope that from this project we can produce writings along the way for NACADA publications such as the Clearinghouse, Academic Advising Today and The NACADA Journal.

If you wish to help with this project, serve as an editor on the wiki project or are just curious about writing an article for a NACADA publication sponsored by the Commission please feel free to contact me!

All the best,

Hello Tyann: Thank you for inviting me to the WIKI. WIKI's Blogs are all new to me but I want to learn more about them as I am seeing them as the "wave of the future" for on-line advising. Actually, I am interested in writing something for the WIKI or even publication.
I've been advising (Here at Empire State College-Mentoring) at a distance for almost 20 years now first with telephone and regular mail and by the mid-1990's with the WEB and e-mail. I must say that I have enjoyed every momemnt of it even though its a rare event to meet one of my advisees even at graduation.
Looking forward to be getting more involved.
Paul
